Amit Jain is a Counsel for the Supreme Court and Appellate Program at the MacArthur Justice Center. He identifies, briefs, and argues important civil rights and criminal justice issues in appellate courts across the country. Amit also supervises case teams and trains junior attorneys serving as legal fellows.

Prior to joining MacArthur, Amit was a counsel at Hecker Fink LLP, where he specialized in appellate and complex civil litigation. At Hecker Fink, Amit represented individuals, nonprofits, universities, and government entities in administrative law, constitutional law, civil rights, education, tech accountability, and policy advocacy matters. In 2024, Amit also served as the Co-Director of the Howard University School of Law appellate Civil Rights Clinic, where he and his students filed clinic briefs in federal courts of appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. He previously worked as litigation and policy counsel at the Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project and as a staff attorney with the Bronx Defenders.

Amit served as a law clerk to Justice Sonia Sotomayor of the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge Diana Gribbon Motz of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He earned his J.D. from Yale Law School and his B.A. from Brown University. Prior to law school, Amit worked as a middle school math and science teacher in Boston, Massachusetts.
