The MacArthur Justice Center to Serve as Aliya Rahman’s Counsel After Violent Attack by Federal Agents in Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS, MN- The MacArthur Justice Center will represent Aliya Rahman as counsel in her fight for justice after being assaulted by federal agents in Minneapolis while on the way to a routine appointment at the Traumatic Brain Injury Center.
Alexa Van Brunt, director of the MacArthur Justice Center’s Illinois office and lead counsel for Ms. Rahman, has issued the following statement:
“Ms. Rahman is lucky to be alive today after being dragged from her car by masked agents two blocks from where Renee Good was shot and killed. Federal agents demanded that she move her car, but she had nowhere to move it. She identified herself as an autistic and disabled person but agents did not de-escalate or stop abusing her. What started as a regular trip to see her medical provider ended in violence, incarceration at the Whipple Detention Center, and emergency medical treatment.
“We are honored to represent Ms. Rahman as she seeks redress for the injuries and trauma she experienced at the hands of federal agents in Minneapolis earlier this week.
“Masked, unidentified federal agents continue to occupy American cities like Minneapolis, leaving violent – and now, deadly – confrontations in their wake. No one is above the law, and they must be held responsible for their gross abuse of power. Aliya Rahman deserves better. Minneapolis deserves better. Communities across America deserve better.”
