MacArthur Justice Center Statement on St. Louis Protests Following Jason Stockley’s not guilty verdict

Clearly nothing was learned from the Ferguson uprising.

As the St. Louis community continues to protest MSPD officer Jason Stockley’s not guilty verdict – and the acceptance of state-sponsored racial bias and violence that it exemplifies – police have again become militarized forces intent on criminalizing and punishing dissent.

But as long as law enforcement seeks to trample on the free speech rights of peaceful protesters, MacArthur Justice Centers will stand steadfast with protesters – both in the streets and in the courts – until justice is served.

There can be no peace where there is injustice. Remaining silent in the face of further targeted police violence is not being peaceful. It is being complicit.
