The MacArthur Justice Center is seeking a staff attorney for our Louisiana office. The MacArthur Justice Center is a public interest law firm that litigates high-impact cases targeted at reforming the criminal justice system. We are looking for a talented, dedicated attorney to litigate structural criminal justice issues, such as police and prosecutor misconduct, mass incarceration, inhumane conditions of confinement, oppressive bail systems, racial discrimination, and other unlawful practices. Applicants should have high academic qualifications, exemplary writing and oral argument skills, ability to work in a team, and a demonstrated commitment to the rights of persons oppressed by the criminal justice system. Knowledge of the Louisiana criminal justice system and familiarity with the Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure is a plus. Membership in the Louisiana Bar is strongly preferred, but persons eligible to take the Louisiana Bar examination within 6 months of hiring may apply.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis; we plan to hire as soon as practicable.This is not an entry level position, but we are otherwise open to attorneys at all levels of experience. The salary is competitive within the non-profit legal sector and includes an excellent benefits package.
